Our Story

Founded in 2008, we're an independently owned laptop retailer committed to taking the jargon out of finding your next laptop. For nearly two decades, we've been on the high street, with our head office, dispatch and laptop repair services in Bracknell, Berkshire.

The Unlikely Student Business

Liam and Brenden worked for The Laptop Shop, located on Queens Road in Brighton, opposite Brighton Train Station, while studying. During the same year, the owner decided to close the store.

The young business duo, aged just 19 and 20, decided to take a gamble on themselves and give running their own retail business a shot.

Liam recalls, "I was on the bus into town when I applied for a £25,000 loan to buy the business. I wasn't expecting to get it. The time the short bus had taken me into town, the money was in my account. In those days, there was no online banking, so I had to check at a cashpoint. I checked the balance in my student account, and there it was - £25,000 (and two pence)."

Armed with the cash, the pair launched Laptop Station (the name makes sense now, right?) in their Brighton shop, selling brand new laptops and repairs.

Global Financial Crash

Global Financial Crash

After less than six months in business, the 2008 Financial Crash happened, heavily impacting the business. Things were tough, and the business had to rapidly change its model, switching to more budget-friendly refurbished laptops.

Hello, Eastbourne!

The new model was working well, the team grew from three to five, and the business took an ambitious gamble during a financial crisis - opening a second shop in Eastbourne, taking over Eastbourne Computers on 70 Seaside Road.

The £99 Laptop Guys

By listening closely and constantly adapting, the business achieved huge success with its £99 Laptop Deals. The strong sales and continued growth allowed the store to move into prime retail space on a high street, taking a small unit in the Enterprise Shopping Centre, located next to Eastbourne Train Station (yes, there's an affinity for train stations).

Local Computer Shop on the web!

We launched a web offering that provides a catalogue of our available laptops, allowing us to start serving customers outside our seaside locations. We were able to offer friendly, independent advice to anyone, without them even needing to pop into one of our shops.

Things were going well in Eastbourne, and the growing team needed more space for stock and the growing repair service. The business sold its Brighton store to focus on doubling its retail space in Eastbourne, adding tablets and mobiles to its line-up of electronic devices.

The Award Winning Laptop Business

The Award Winning Laptop Business

We were lucky enough to scoop up some awards, including Highly Commended Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2012, Highly Commended Service & Support Company of the Year in 2013, and Highly Commended Small Business of the Year in 2014.

The fanfare and celebrations didn't get in the way of the next stage, another move, this time to an even larger unit within the Enterprise Shopping Centre in 2013, adding to the team, taking it to six.

Shopping Online Is Here

On 11th March 2025, we launched our new online store, making our range of refurbished laptop deals available for delivery across the UK (and later, Europe!).

BullGuard (Norton) Partner of the year

Thanks to our online sales, we achieved the Top Ten Independent Retailers for BullGuard. We were equally shocked and chuffed to be acknowledged by a global company (and be up against some of the big boys!)

An online first - upgradable laptops

We were the first to launch a laptop upgrade service on our website, allowing you to customise the RAM, storage, and Operating System of many of our in-stock laptops.

2020

Covid & the home working boom

With homeworking and online school learning suddenly the 'normal', we were inundated with orders for laptops. At a time when many small businesses were facing tough decisions, another roll of the dice occurred as the business expanded its space to support demand for web orders.

Laptop Station was recognised as the Best Laptop Sales & Repair Company at the Southern Enterprise Awards.

Making it personal, online

The way shoppers were buying had changed a lot since the end of Covid, many customers switching to ordering online instead of visiting in store. It wasn't the first time the business model needed to change, this time we reduced our retail space to focus on our web sales.

New employee (and customer favourite), Lando, was hired to look after in-store customer happiness. 10/10, would fully recommend.

Moving to the big tech city

Moving to the big tech city

After 17 years in a busy retail environment, you'd expect the business pair to be fed up with big gambles and challenges (apparently not!). On 20th March 2025, we closed the doors of our retail store in Eastbourne as we focused on becoming an online retailer.

In a few short weeks, the business had packed up, moved, and was ready to continue serving customers from its new home in Bracknell, Berkshire. Our new head office, in the Thames Valley, is also home to our partners Lenovo, Dell, HP and Microsoft - so it's the ideal spot for us. (p.s we know Bracknell isn't a city... yet.)
