The Unlikely Student Business
Liam and Brenden worked for The Laptop Shop, located on Queens Road in Brighton, opposite Brighton Train Station, while studying. During the same year, the owner decided to close the store.
The young business duo, aged just 19 and 20, decided to take a gamble on themselves and give running their own retail business a shot.
Liam recalls, "I was on the bus into town when I applied for a £25,000 loan to buy the business. I wasn't expecting to get it. The time the short bus had taken me into town, the money was in my account. In those days, there was no online banking, so I had to check at a cashpoint. I checked the balance in my student account, and there it was - £25,000 (and two pence)."
Armed with the cash, the pair launched Laptop Station (the name makes sense now, right?) in their Brighton shop, selling brand new laptops and repairs.
